Quinta do Peru confirms place among Portugal's Leading Courses

Quinta do Peru has further enhanced its reputation as one of the top golfing venues in Portugal after being singled out for special recognition in the ‘Leading Courses’ Golfers’ Choice rankings for the second year running.

The highly acclaimed 18-hole venue, part of the  Lisbon Golf group, received a ‘recommended’ certificate from top Dutch website Leadingcourses.com for 2018 to ensure it maintained its status from last year.

The Rocky Roquemore-designed Lisbon layout – just a 30-minute drive from the capital – is one of seven courses run through management group , and was already ranked 17th in Portugal on the renowned Top 100 Golf Courses website.

All Portuguese golf clubs are included on the Leading Courses system, among nearly 22,000 courses in 109 countries. The site, which is used by more than 250,000 golfers each month, is available in eight languages, reaching around 92 per cent of European golfers in their mother tongue.

Only courses with an overall rating of more than 7.5 (out of 10) are eligible to be certified as ‘recommended’, with Quinta do Peru receiving 7.95, a score determined by the reviews and scores provided by individual golfers who have played there.

ORIZONTE commercial director José Maria Cazal Ribeiro said: “This is yet more good news with Quinta do Peru being recognised as one of the best courses, not only in the Lisbon region, but in Portugal as a whole.

“Quinta do Peru has long been a favourite among visitors from all across Europe and that popularity is something that continues to improve all the time, as bookings are again up for 2018. But Quinta is one of only seven of our courses here at ORIZONTE.

“All of them are around the Lisbon area and all of them are totally different, yet challenging and enjoyable for golfers of all standards, and that is only going to get better over the coming months as we continue to make improvements to the facilities on and off the courses.

"We will also have a new four-star hotel coming later this year to Aroeira where we already have two first-class courses.”

Quinta do Peru – the host of several European Challenge Tour events since it opened in 1994 – meanders through the verdant pines of the Arrábida Natural Park and provides a thrilling but challenging 6,640-yard test, with astute bunkering and true rolling, while its quick greens offer an honest examination of any putting stroke.

ORIZONTE runs a series of golf stay-and-play packages, allowing golfers to stay at a host of exclusive hotels either in the vibrant capital, the popular seaside resort of Caparica, or the picturesque fishing village of Sesimbra.
