Desert Springs Resort in Andalucía Spain will host the end of season Tour Championship for the
fourth year in late October.
Desert Springs Resort has played host to three previous Tour Championships and is Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course situated in the Almanzora region of Almeria. The resort has created some of the finest memories for many such as Jordan Smith winning the 2015 Tour Championship on the fourth extra playoff hole
Top of the Rock (Jack Nicklaus design) is a par-3 course with nine holes. It is played annually as part of Bass Pro Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge, a PGA TOUR Champions event, and the only par-3 course played as part of a PGA TOUR tournament. That it is deemed TOUR worthy, a course played by some of the world’s greatest golfers, speaks to its exceptional quality.
Resort residents can enjoy the luxurious spa plus a selection of excellent restaurants and bars, while the clubhouse offers a well-stocked pro shop and another fine restaurant looking out over Campo Asia. There are also further leisure opportunities with a FIFA-standard football pitch, running circuit, gym, tennis and squash courts. The resort offers a good transfer service from both Malaga airport and the coastal towns on the Costa del Sol
The grandstand on the 18th green was rocking when Martin Kaymer (GER) carded his eighth birdie of the day to take a two-shot lead into the weekend at the BMW International Open. The second round at Golfclub München Eichenried once again produced some spectacular stories, including the BMW Hole-in-One Award – this year, a BMW M8 Competition Coupé – which was won in Munich for the first time since 2010.
The highlights of this year’s Festival da Jazz include a free concert by a capella choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo (who gained worldwide recognition through Paul Simon’s Graceland album), Latin sounds from Gilberto Gil, American jazz pianist Chick Corea and eclectic violin pieces from Britain’s Nigel Kennedy.
The original course at Santo da Serra, dating from 1937, was redesigned in 1991 by Robert Trent Jones Snr, who created a new and spectacular 27-hole complex. The third and fourth holes of the Machico course are regarded as the signature holes, sitting atop cliffs more than 2,200ft above sea level, providing views of the bay of Machico, where Portuguese navigators first landed in 1419.
The event – played on both of the multi-award-winning signature golf courses, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course – is limited to 50 teams, each of which comprises one PGA professional and three amateurs, and is a great way to launch the new golf season.
